GBS alumnae sisters launch jewelry line to help fund cancer research
Wrists cannot live on rubber cause bracelets alone.
Lance Armstrong can get away with wearing his yellow Livestrong rubber cuffs when snapped by photographers. The rest of us prefer a bit more sparkle with our charity bracelets.
And that’s where the Patoff sisters can help.
Shelly and Molly launched Three Hearts last September.
“We already spend all our time together,” Molly said. “It just made sense to to take the things we love the most and start selling them.”
The proud GBS alumnae (Shelly class of 2005, Molly 2010) wanted a way for their customers to give money to charity, all while finding perfect pieces to complement their wardrobes.
Their cause is helping find a cure for cancer.
“When I was a little girl, the word was just so scary,” said Shelly. “I remember mixing soup potions and telling my family that these mixes would cure cancer.”
The disease hit close to home when a close friend of the sisters was diagnosed.
“We just felt so hopeless,” Shelly said.
So the sisters went to work starting Three Hearts and establishing their mission to donate a percentage of each sale to Children’s Memorial Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
Each piece has their namesake — three hearts. The iconography is compelling.
“We want our pieces to be personal and have meaning.” Molly said. “A heart never ends. We want [a cancer patient’s] heart, your heart and our heart intertwined.”
Three Hearts is sold at the Palm Court in the Drake Hotel and at Marilyn Miglin in Chicago.
However, for those shoppers who want to stay closer to home, the designers take their wares to your front door and host private showings.
“Everything has meaning and shopping with us makes you feel good,” Shelly said.
